0, 0, 0: Congress Wiped Out In Delhi For Third Straight Election But Betters Vote Share

Delhi Election Results 2025: Aam Aadmi Party was trumped by the BJP, which made a stunning comeback to power in Delhi by winning 48 seats. The Congress lost out on all seats for the third consecutive election.

For the third consecutive time in an assembly election, the Congress could not win a seat.
New Delhi: The Indian National Congress yet again remained consistent with its performance in Delhi, facing another wipeout as the BJP ended over decade rule of Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party in the national capital. For the third consecutive time in an assembly election, the Congress could not win a seat. The only positive trend for the grand old party was the fact that its vote share has increased marginally, from 4.3% in 2020 to 6.34% this time.
The grand old party also successfully played spoiler in 19 constituencies (the Aam Aadmi Party lost 12 of these and the BJP, 7), according to reports. One of the biggest upsets - Arvind Kejriwal's loss in New Delhi seat - was also attributed to the Congress splitting the "secular votes" in the assembly seat. Kejriwal lost to BJP's Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma by a margin of 4,089 votes while the Congress' Sandeep Dikshit, the son of another former chief minister, polled 4,568 votes.
"The 2025 Delhi Vidhan Sabha election results reflect nothing more than a referendum on Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party. After all, at the height of the PM’s popularity in 2015 and 2020, AAP had won decisively in Delhi. This shows that, rather than being vindication of the policies of the PM, this vote is a rejection of Arvind Kejriwal’s politics of deceit, deception, and vastly exaggerated claims of achievement," Congress' communications chief Jairam Ramesh said.
