When Marvel Sent 'Cease And Desist Letters' To Rey Mysterio For Superhero-Inspired Outfits: WWE Had To Shut Me Down
Rey Mysterio, known for his striking World Wrestling Entertainment or WWE gear has over the years enticed fans and audience with his homage to superheroes like Spider-Man, Superman, The Flash, Daredevil, Wolverine and others through his comic books inspired outfits. Infact, many even ended up becoming iconic inside the ring. But, Marvel doesn't seem to be happy.
The wrestler has revealed that post WrestleMania, the WWE received cease and desist letters due to his Marvel outfits. The Studio that holds patent to several superheroes, believed it was an apparent trademark infringement from his side.
Marvel sent letters to WWE
Mysterio opened up on the matter to Adrian Hernandez of Unlikely. The 50-year-old claimed that while he loved paying tribute to the iconic superheroes, WWE had to interfere due to legal concerns.
"Actually, WWE had to shut me down for a minute because I was getting too exaggerated. It’s my logo, I’m just using their colours and maybe a Captain America star here and the gloves, but I don’t change anything," he said.

Rey Mysterio's superhero outfits history
Speaking on the first time he incorporated comic book aesthetics into his costume during AAA, Mysterio recalled the outfit which was inspired by Superman with tights, trunks, and a red cape. He said, "When I did the first one, I was in AAA. I did a Superman outfit. I used to wear tights and trunks over the tights and the logo on the trunks had the Superman logo with the ‘?’ and the colours. I just wore a red cape. People got what I was trying to do."
Post joining the WWE, things however changed following legal warnings. "I carried that with me to WWE until they told me, ‘Hey, maybe you’ve got to stop a little bit because we’re getting cease and desist letters,'" he stated.
Rey Mysterio won't stop using superhero elements
Despite all, there is not stopping Mysterio, who claims to be working on "a pretty dope idea." He revealed, "I’m hoping I’ll be able to bust it out. But overall, it’s always been inspirational. When I did the first one, I was in AAA, and I did a Superman outfit.”
WWE edited Mysterio's photos on its website in Captain America gear from WrestleMania 27. It altered the flag stripes on his midsection and changing them to solid red.
