Dragon director Ashwath Marimuthu faces flak from netizens

Ahead of the film's release, the team of the film Dragon gave an interview where Ashwanth stated to have wrapped up the film in the said budget.
Did Ashwanth Marimuthu take a dig at directors Shankar, Atlee And Vetrimaaran?
Ashwath Marimuthu said "The budget given to me was Rs 37 crores, and I managed to wrap up the film in the said budget. Whatever I need in the film, I write it in the paper, including what stays in the editing, the run time was 2 hours 37 min, now we have trimmed it to 2 hours 30 min. So I never shoot extra for two reasons: one is it's a waste of energy for me, and the second is the production cost is also waste. "
Soon after the short clip went live, netizens flooded the comments section and claimed that Ashwath is taking a dig at directors Shankar, Atlee and Vetrimaaran. Some even schooled him for saying he can't compare himself to legends such as Shankar.
One comment read "Shankar a pathi ivanunga laam pesuranunga..neram..Shankar is a a OG director..don't forget the movies he has given to tamil cinema.."
Another netizen posted "Everyone has downfall athukaga ... Ipdi laam matan thatta koodathu..."
A user said "Vetrimaran thaka pattar" another user posted "Atlee pakanum".
For the unversed, directors Vetrimaaran, Shankar and Atlee are often said to exceed budgets while working on films.
For instance, director Vetrimaaran confessed in a media interaction has said that the budget for the film Viduthalai went high by Rs 60 crore. He said that the initial budget of the movie was Rs 4 crore.
