Amul To Build World's Largest Curd Plant With Rs 600 Crore Budget Near THIS Metro City

Kolkata: Home-grown dairy giant Amul has announced the construction of the world’s largest curd manufacturing plant near Kolkata, West Bengal. The announcement was made by Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), at the Bengal Global Business Summit on Thursday.

The state-of-the-art plant, located at Sankrail Food Park in Howrah, will have a production capacity of 10 lakh kg per day. It will produce dahi, mishti doi, yogurt, lassi, and buttermilk, along with processing and packing 15 lakh litres of milk per day. The facility will also manufacture ice cream, paneer, flavoured milk, ghee, and UHT milk.

Rs 600 Crore Investment for Revolutionary Dairy Hub

The massive plant is being developed by Anand-based Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited (popularly known as Amul Dairy), a key member of GCMMF, with an investment of Rs 600 crore in two phases.

Mehta talked about Bengal’s strong preference for curd products, saying, "The consumers of Bengal have a strong preference for curd — popular as ‘tok doi' and ‘mishti doi’. This plant will help cater to the growing demand in the market."

Boosting Bengal’s Dairy Movement

Currently, Amul is the largest fresh milk brand in Bengal, selling over 10 lakh litres per day. With an extensive procurement network across 14 districts and the involvement of over 1.2 lakh women milk producers, the company is already a significant contributor to the region's dairy sector.

The upcoming dairy plant is expected to further strengthen the dairy cooperative movement in Bengal under the White Revolution 2.0 initiative led by the Union Cooperation Ministry.
