Arunachal Pradesh Women Panel Demands Action Against Elvish Yadav For Racist Remarks About Bigg Boss 18's Chum Darang
Controversy’s favourite child, Elvish Yadav is slapped with yet again conflict for his distasteful remark about Bigg Boss 18 finalist Chum Darang. The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) has reacted to the comments against the actress and requested the National Commission for Women to take suo motu cognisance of the ‘derogatory and racist’ remarks.
APSCW demand justice for Chum Darang
APSCW chairperson Kenjum Pakam wrote to the NCW, “The comment tarnishes the reputation of Chum in particular and Northeast women in general. Such behaviour creates a pervasive sense of fear and intimidation among women from the region who aspire to build their careers in Bollywood, making them vulnerable and marginalised.”
Chairperson Pakam further asked NCW to take immediate action against Elvish for his remarks and serve justice to Chum while highlighting the need to tackle racial discrimination faced by Northeastern women.
Elvish Yadav's remark for Chum Darang
During a podcast with Rajat Dalal, Elvish Yadav mocked Chum's appearance. He remarked, “Karanveer ko pakka COVID tha kyunki Chum kisko pasand aati hai bhai, itna taste kiska kharab hota hai! Aur Chum ke toh naam mein hi ashleelta hai.”
Chum reacted to Elvish’s derogatory comment and wrote on Instagram stories, “Disrespecting someone’s identity & name is not ‘fun.’ Mocking someone’s achievements is not ‘banter.’ It’s time we draw the line between humor and hate. What’s even more disappointing is that this wasn’t just about my ethnicity—my hard work and a film backed by a visionary like Sanjay Leela Bhansali were also disrespected. To my fellow Northeasterners and everyone who has faced racism—I see you, I hear you, and I stand with you. We all deserve respect, dignity, and equality. Let’s raise our voices against racism and promote a culture of empathy, kindness, and understanding. #NoRoomForRacism #NotOkayWithRacism (sic).”
Chum Darang, who acted in Badhaai Do in the lead with Bhumi Pednekar, Rajkummar Rao and Gulshan Devaiah, participated in the 18th season of Bigg Boss. She was a finalist.
