Chennai: Chandrika Tandon, a name known with both business acumen and musical brilliance, has added a prestigious award to her list of achievements. The Indian-American vocalist and entrepreneur recently won the Grammy Award for her album Triveni in the Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album category. The honour was announced at the 67th Grammy Awards, held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday.

A Fusion of Tradition and Modernity

Triveni, which translates to “confluence” in Sanskrit, stands as a beautiful testament to Tandon’s vision of creating music that bridges cultures. The album is a collaboration with Grammy-winning South African flutist Wouter Kellerman and Japanese-American cellist Eru Matsumoto. Together, the trio fused ancient mantras with contemporary instrumental arrangements, crafting a deeply healing and evocative musical experience that resonated with both audiences and critics alike.
Reacting to the win, Tandon expressed her delight backstage at the Recording Academy, saying, “It feels amazing. We had such wonderful nominees in the category. The fact that we won this is really an extra special moment for us.”

Who Is Chandrika Tandon?

Chandrika Tandon grew up in Chennai before making a name for herself as a global business leader, as per a Business Today report. She is also the elder sister of Indra Nooyi, the former CEO of PepsiCo. Despite her impressive corporate background, Tandon’s heart has always been deeply connected to music. Her journey into the world of professional music began with a personal quest for healing and cultural expression.
This Grammy win is not Tandon’s first brush with Grammy recognition. In 2011, she was nominated for her album Soul Call in the Best Contemporary World Music Album category.
Beyond music, Tandon has been a trailblazer in the business world, leading successful ventures and mentoring future leaders. Her ability to balance these two contrasting worlds — music and business — is a testament to her versatile talent and passion.

Standing Out Amid Tough Competition

The Grammy-winning Triveni faced stiff competition from other formidable nominees, including Ricky Kej’s Break of Dawn, Ryuichi Sakamoto’s Opus, Anoushka Shankar’s Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn, and Radhika Vekaria’s Warriors of Light. Yet, it was the innovative blend of traditional chants and modern melodies that set Triveni apart.
Grateful for the album’s success, Tandon shared on social media, “We wouldn’t have reached here except for the incredible support of the fans. There are such spectacular fellow musicians I met along the way…” Her heartfelt message highlighted the collaborative spirit that defined the project.
