After a decade, a new version of Daredevil is being launched for Disney+ on March 4. Charlie Cox is returning as Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, and Vincent D’Onofrio is also reprising his role as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin. The Marvel series on Netflix about the blind superhero was hailed as dark and violent when it launched in 2015 and fans were worried if the tone of the new reboot would be different. Showrunner Dario Scardapane and actor D’Onofrio have revealed in a new interview the new series is much darker.
Disney reboot of Daredevil goes harder than Netflix version
The fights, storylines and vision for the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again matches up and even goes beyond than the 2015 Netflix show. Speaking with Empire magazine, Scardapane shared that the move to Disney+ doesn't diminish the darker tones of the show. He stated, "The level of violence is way up there for a Marvel/Disney show. “I don’t think there’s anything else even in the ballpark. There’s a moment in this that is just absolutely batshit, and way past anything Netflix ever did.”Kingpin actor D’Onofrio, who also played the baddie in last year's Echo, added, “There’s a world in which you might think that if that show kept running, we’d be in this place eventually, or something like it. But we’ve gone further in the darkness, the action, the nastiness."
The official synopsis has promised a battle ahead for Daredevil and Kingpin. It reads: In Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.
The rest of the ensemble cast for Daredevil: Born Again includes Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Ayelet Zurer, Jon Bernthal, Wilson Bethel, Margarita Levieva, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, and Michael Gandolfini. Bernthal will be reprising his role as The Punisher.
