Delhi Declares Public Holiday On February 12 For All Government Offices And Institutions

Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, VK Saxena, has declared Wednesday, 12th February 2025, as a public holiday for all government offices, autonomous bodies, and public undertakings under the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, in observance of Guru Ravidas Jayanti.

Guru Ravidas Jayanti commemorates the birth of the revered 15th-century saint and poet, Guru Ravidas, known for his contributions to the Bhakti movement and his teachings on equality and social justice. The day is marked by various events, including processions, devotional songs, and community gatherings, especially in northern India.

Traditionally, Guru Ravidas Jayanti is observed in several states, including Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Punjab. In 2025, the celebration falls on 12th February, a Wednesday.

The announcement by the Delhi government allows employees to participate in the festivities and honour the legacy of Guru Ravidas. Essential services and departments with critical functions are expected to maintain operations as per standard holiday protocols.

Residents are encouraged to take part in the celebrations and reflect on the teachings of Guru Ravidas, which continue to inspire many across the country.
