DRDO Transfers Su-30 Brake Parachute Technology to Ordnance Equipment Factory at Aero India 2025

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) transferred key technology for the Su-30 fighter jet’s brake parachute to the Ordnance Equipment Factory (OEF), Hazratpur, at Aero India 2025 on Monday, marking a step toward greater self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
India's premier research and development institution formally handed over the Transfer of Technology (ToT) to OEF Hazratpur’s General Manager, Amit Singh. Minister of State (MoS) for Defence Sanjay Seth presided over the event, which was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), DRDO, and the Indian Air Force (IAF).
The brake parachute is a crucial component that helps slow down the Su-30 during landing. The transfer is expected to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers, aligning with India’s broader push for indigenisation under the government’s “Make in India” initiative.
“OEF Hazratpur has played a vital role in producing high-quality technical parachutes for the armed forces, and this transfer will further strengthen India’s defense production ecosystem,” Seth said.
The factory has previously collaborated with DRDO on aerial delivery systems and other defense-related textile products. With this latest development, it aims to improve the IAF's operational efficiency while supporting the country’s long-term goal of self-sufficiency in aerospace technology.
No financial details of the transfer were disclosed.
