A 3.5 magnitude earthquake struck Haryana on Wednesday, with tremors felt across the Delhi-NCR region. The epicenter of the quake was identified as Sonipat, Haryana.
“EQ of M: 3.5, On: 25/12/2024 12:28:31 IST, Lat: 28.83 N, Long: 76.96 E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Sonipat, Haryana,” read a post by National Center for Seismology on X.
Several regions in India remain prone to high-intensity earthquakes. On Monday, a 3.7 magnitude tremor shook Gujarat's Kutch district, according to the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR). The quake, recorded at 10:44 am, had its epicenter 76 kilometers north-northeast of Lakhpat, as reported by the Gandhinagar-based ISR. No casualties or property damage have been reported by the district administration. This marked the second seismic event exceeding a 3 magnitude in Kutch district this month. On December 7, the district experienced a 3.2 magnitude tremor, according to the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR).
Last month, Kutch recorded a 4 magnitude earthquake on November 18. Earlier, on November 15, a 4.2 magnitude quake jolted Patan in north Gujarat, as per ISR data.
Earlier, a mild earthquake hit Bajhang district of western Nepal Tuesday evening, December 17. The earthquake was felt by people living in the surrounding districts as well even when the authorities said there are no immediate reports of any damage or loss of life.
