A group of people, namely the People's Union, is organizing a nationwide economic blackout in response to the federal government's rollback of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, reports Newsweek.
Since returning to office last month, President Donald Trump has prioritized dismantling several DEI programs within the federal government. Through an executive order, he authorized the freezing of funds for companies that fail to comply and banned the use of inclusion-focused messaging.
As a result, PBS has shut down its DEI office, while major corporations like Amazon, Target, and Google are beginning to phase out their DEI initiatives.

What Is The Economic Blackout Day

In response to the rollback of DEI initiatives, the People's Union is organizing a 24-hour economic blackout on February 28, starting at 12 a.m.
Participants have pledged to avoid making any purchases, whether online or in physical stores, throughout the day.
The boycott specifically targets major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy. However, organizers are also urging participants to refrain from spending on fast food and gas. If purchases are necessary, supporters are encouraged to shop exclusively at small, local businesses.
As companies prepare for the boycott, the financial impact remains uncertain.
The People's Union emerged from grassroots efforts by Americans seeking to challenge corporate influence. "If we disrupt the economy for just ONE day, it sends a powerful message," the group stated on its website.
