Mumbai: A fire broke out at Dumping Ground in Navi Mumbai. No casualties reported in the incident. Fire tenders are present at the spot to douse the fire.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but it has led to thick smoke in the vicinity, affecting air quality.
In a separate incident, at least ten shops were gutted after a fire broke out at a furniture market in suburban Oshiwara here on Tuesday morning, an official said.
The official said there was no report of casualty in the blaze that erupted around 11.30 am in the market on Swami Vivekanand Marg.
He said more than 20 fire engines, water tankers and other equipment have been pressed into service to contain the fire that has been categorised as Level 2 (major).
The official said the blaze began at a furniture godown and spread to the adjacent shops on the ground floor of the market.
He added that the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Mumbai Boosts Fire Safety with 7 New Fire StationsTo enhance fire safety and improve response times, seven new fire stations will be established across Mumbai, including Kandivali, Kanjur Marg, Santacruz, Chembur, and Andheri, along with two along the Coastal Road. The centers at Kandivali and Kanjur Marg have already been completed. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has allocated INR 160 crores for fire brigade upgrades this year, with INR 261 crores planned for 2025-26. These additions aim to address challenges posed by rising population and traffic congestion, ensuring quicker emergency responses. Coastal Road fire stations will serve critical areas near Marine Drive and Worli for enhanced public safety.
