GBS Outbreak in Pune: 167 Cases, 7 Deaths Reported
Pune: The cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) in Pune continue to spread a scare among the residents as, according to the latest data released by the Public Health Department, 167 cases have been reported with one death confirmed and 6 more suspected. The autoimmune disorder, which affects the peripheral nervous system and can cause muscle weakness or even paralysis, has called for close monitoring by health authorities.
Among the seven reported deaths, one has been confirmed as directly related to GBS, while the cause of the remaining six deaths is still under investigation. On a positive note, 91 patients have successfully recovered and been discharged. However, 48 individuals remain in intensive care units (ICUs), and 21 are currently on ventilator support.
Geographical and Age-Wise Distribution
The outbreak has affected multiple areas, with the newly added villages under the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) reporting the highest number of cases at 91. This is followed by:- 39 cases within PMC limits
Age-wise data reveals that the 20-29 age group has the highest number of cases, accounting for 42 patients. This is followed by:

New Cases and Surveillance Efforts
