Noida: The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has unveiled an extensive plan to connect Noida International Airport with Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) through an upgraded metro line. Preparations are underway to extend the Golden Line Metro from Aerocity to Kalindi Kunj. Currently, the line runs from Aerocity to Tughlakabad, but this extension to Kalindi Kunj will provide direct access to the Botanical Garden Metro Station, significantly reducing travel times and improving convenience for passengers.
The proposal, submitted by DMRC Chief Project Manager Shiv Om Dwivedi, includes the construction of a 5 km elevated metro track between Tughlakabad and Kalindi Kunj. This extension will introduce two new stations: Sarita Vihar and Madanpur Khadar. The estimated cost for the track construction is Rs 950 crore, which the DMRC has requested from the Yamuna Development Authority. Connecting the Golden Line to Kalindi Kunj is expected to link with the Magenta Line, further enhancing connectivity.
The DMRC plans to complete the construction within three years, aiming to streamline travel between Noida, Greater Noida, and Delhi IGI Airport. In contrast, the proposed 72.4 km Namo Bharat Metro route connecting to Noida International Airport is expected to take at least six years to complete.
Botanical Garden Metro Station, currently connecting the Magenta and Blue Lines, will be a key point in the new extension. The Magenta Line runs from Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden, covering 25 stations, including 15 underground and 10 elevated. The proposal, once approved, will be a major step toward improving airport connectivity and benefiting residents of Noida, Greater Noida, and air travellers.
