Hug Day 2025: These Are The 5 Most Iconic Hugs In The History
On Hug Day, we celebrate warmth, unity, and iconic embraces! From Rahul Gandhi’s surprise hug to PM Modi in Parliament to Obama and Crist’s political shake-up, history is full of unforgettable hugs. Bollywood’s Salman-SRK reconciliation and Indira Gandhi’s historic embrace with Fidel Castro prove that a simple hug can bridge differences and heal wounds.

Most Iconic Hugs In The History
Today is hug day, and we are all in for forgetting differences and embracing a fellow in a warm hug! So, let's look at some of the most iconic hugs in history.
Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi

The first on the list has to be the two leaders of the national political parties, the Bhartiya Janta Party and the Congress. It was in 2018 when Congress president Rahul Gandhi made news with a warm bear hug in the Parliament. He walked up to PM Modi and bent down to give him a warm hug after a fiery speech during the no-confidence vote debate.
Barack Obama and Charlie Crist

Talking about different ideologies coming together, in 2014 another (in)famous, but iconic political hug made it to the news. This was when the then US President Obama, just three months into his presidency came to Florida and hugged Charlie Crist, the Republican governor of state that time.
Crist said, "Ladies and gentlemen, please give a warm Florida welcome to President Barack Obama". The two men shook their hands and then hugged. It made headlines in the piece written by Crist, The Hug That Killed My Republican Career.
Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan

This hug has to be the warmest of all. Most of us remember the long-standing cold war between the two Karan Arjun stars. While they used to be close, a fight on Katrina Kaif's birthday really tore their friendship apart. However, in 2013, at Baba Siddique's Iftar party, the two biggest Khans of the Bollywood industry hugged their differences out! This left everyone stunned but made the fans happy!
Indira Gandhi and Fidel Castro

This has to be the hug of the century! It was an iconic hug, indeed. It was 1979, and it was the 7th Non-Aligned Movement Summit in New Delhi. Indira Gandhi was taking over the chairmanship of Cuba's Fidel Castro, and they hugged as he handed over the responsibilities of NAM to her.
Narendra Modi and Donald Trump

We know about diplomacy, but since PM Modi, it has taken a new turn, it is safe to say that it has now become hugplomacy. PM Modi is known for his trademark warm bear hugs with world leader and the most iconic one is with the 47th US President Trump. While he has hugged many world leaders, it is with Trump that made a big difference! From PM Modi's election slogan used for Trump "Ab Ki Baar Trump Sarkar", to his statements saying he loves Hindus, to his cabinet consisting of many of Indian-origin. The bear hug has really made a difference!
