The BCCI made a huge announcement on Tuesday (February 11) and officially confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah won't participate in the upcoming Champions Trophy. Bumrah is still down with a back issue which he suffered during the fifth Test match against Australia and isn't fit to play the ICC event.
Harshit Rana, who replaced Bumrah in the ODI squad for the England series, has now made it to the CT squad. The selectors made one more change and brought in Varun Chakaravarthy in place of Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Yashasvi is now among the three reserve players for the Champions Trophy. The selection committee continued to ignore Karun Nair and there was no place for him even in the reserve list.
The out-of-favour India batsman piled up 779 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to come in contention. Nair hit 5 centuries and a half-century in 8 innings he played for Vidarbha.
Nair wasn't named in the provisional squad for the ICC event and isn't included in the reserve list either. He continued his form in the Ranji Trophy and slammed 2 centuries in 3 matches played in the second round of the tournament, which resumed on January 23. Nair will once again be in action in the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Mumbai.
Shivam Dube and Mohammed Siraj are two other players in the reserve list. Both were part of the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning team. As for Yashasvi, he made his debut in the first ODI against England but was dropped after Virat Kohli made his return in the playing XI.
Yashasvi, Shivam and Siraj will only travel to Dubai if Team India needs their services. There have been occasions of reserve players travelling with the team.
India will kick off their 2025 Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh on February 20. They will face Pakistan and New Zealand in their next two matches on February 23 and March 2, respectively.
