Kolkata Horror: E-rickshaw Driver Rapes Then Kills A 13-Year-Old Girl In New Town

Kolkata: An e-rickshaw driver has been arrested for the alleged rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl in New Town, Kolkata. The arrest was made by the Bidhannagar Commissionerate police, who identified the suspect through CCTV footage.

The accused, Soumitra Roy, 26, a resident of Ranaghat Nadia, was seen with the victim in the footage. The girl had hired the e-rickshaw around 11:50 PM on Thursday night to return home. At that time, there were other passengers in the vehicle. She was seated in the front with the driver. After the other passengers disembarked, Roy allegedly took the girl to a secluded area where he committed the crime.

The girl's body was discovered on Friday, just hours after she had left her home following a dispute with her mother. The police, upon reviewing the CCTV footage, detained Roy on Saturday night. His statements were found to be inconsistent and misleading, leading to his arrest.

Police sources have indicated that the investigation is ongoing to determine if there were any accomplices involved in the crime.
