Maha Kumbh 2025: New Prayagraj Traffic Advisory for Maghi Purnima As Devotees Arrive for Snan
Mahakumbh 2025: The Prayagraj police on Tuesday released a fresh traffic advisory for in and around the city in view of Maghi Purnima snan on Wednesday (Feb 12). Elaborate instructions have been given the authorities to ensure smooth traffic management.

Prayagraj: The Uttar Pradesh government, Madhya Pradesh government and all the authorities in the two states are boosting the traffic measures for the Maghi Purnima snan at Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj on Wednesday (Feb 12). This comes amid a horrific traffic scenario in and around the city due to massive crowd of devotees arrving in the the city for the Maha Kumbh mela.
During the Mauni Amavasya snan on January 29, a stampede had occurred at Triveni Sangam killing at least 30 people. Another stampede reportedly also happened in Jhusi area injuring some pilgrims the same day. On Sunday, people took to X and complained of kilometres-long traffic with vehicles reportedly moving merely "5 kms in 5 hours".
Prayagraj Traffic Advisory
According to a fresh advisory by the Prayagraj police, the enitre Mela area has been declared a 'No Vehicle Zone' from 4:00 am on Tuesday (Feb 11), except for essential and emergency services.
As per the advisory, the vehicles of devotees coming from outside for Mahakumbh in Prayagraj city will be parked in the parking of the respective route after 4:00 am on 11 February. "Vehicles of essential and emergency services will be exempted in the said arrangement," it said.
The cops added that from 5 pm onwards, entire city area will be 'No Vehicle Zone'.
"In view of smooth movement and bathing of devotees in Prayagraj city and fair area, No Vehicle zone will be applicable in Prayagraj city after 5 pm on 11 February. Vehicles of essential and emergency services will be exempted in the said arrangement," the traffic advisory added.
The police said that the above traffic arrangement will remain in force till the smooth exit of devotees from the fair area on 12 February.
Police said that the above restrictions on entry and exit of vehicles in Prayagraj city and fair area will also apply to the vehicles of Kalpvasis. Notably, Kalpvas will end with the 'Maghi Purnima' snan on Wednesday.
The Maha Kumbh mela began on January 13 and will end after 45 days on February 26.
