She has been serving as the Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs of the Government of India since May 2019. Prior to her cabinet positions, she served as a Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs and for Commerce and Industry (Independent Charge). She is a member of the Rajya Sabha representing Karnataka since 2016, having previously represented Andhra Pradesh from 2014 to 2016.
