Mumbai/Pune: Starting Tuesday, February 11, vehicles will not be allowed to take the Panvel exit on the Mumbai carriageway of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway for the next six months, as announced by the Navi Mumbai traffic police.
The restriction has been imposed due to the construction of a flyover and an underpass at Kalamboli Circle by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation. To manage traffic flow during this period, the Navi Mumbai traffic police’s Kalamboli unit has issued alternative routes.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Tirupati Kakde, the restriction applies to vehicles travelling towards Panvel, Mumbra, and JNPT via Kalamboli Circle, as well as those heading towards Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata.

Alternative Routes Announced

Vehicles on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway heading towards Panvel, Goa, and JNPT will be diverted 9.6 km before the Panvel exit at Kon Phata. From there, they will take a left turn to reach Palaspe Circle and connect to National Highway 48 (Delhi-Chennai Highway).
Vehicles travelling from Pune towards Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata will be rerouted via Kalamboli. They will descend from the expressway at Kalamboli and take the Sion-Panvel Highway. From there, they will turn right under the flyover near Purusharth Petrol Pump to reach Roadpali and continue towards NH-48.
Those coming from Pune to access the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), also known as Atal Setu, will not be affected. These vehicles will be diverted from the service road at Kon Phata without additional detours.

Long-Term Benefits of the Project

The construction work at Kalamboli Circle aims to reduce congestion and improve travel efficiency. Once completed, the flyover and underpass will help vehicles travelling towards Panvel, JNPT, and Goa bypass multiple traffic signals, leading to smoother traffic flow and reduced travel time.
