Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday to discuss the diversification of New Delhi's energy sourcing through investments in Washington's nuclear technology, the White House said. Modi further recalled 'fond memories' of working with President Donald Trump during his first term. The two leaders held a bilateral meeting after they attended the AI Action Summit in Paris.
The Indian PM is set to visit the United States, with a White House meeting scheduled on February 13.
PM Modi posted about a 'wonderful meeting with US VP JD Vance and his family'. "We had a great conversation on various subjects. Delighted to join them in celebrating the joyous birthday of their son, Vivek!” he added.
Vance thanked 'gracious and kind' Modi on social media. Prime Minister Modi was gracious and kind, and our kids really enjoyed the gifts. I’m grateful to him for the wonderful conversation,” he said.
Earlier in the day, French President Emmanuel Macron posted a video showing Modi and Vance greeting each other at the Elysee Palace on Monday night. “Congratulations. Great, great victory,” Modi could be heard saying. Vance replied, “Thank you so much. So nice to see you.”
At the global AI summit, Modi spoke about Artificial Intelligence playing a crucial role in daily lives. He also adddressed concerns around job losses due to AI.
"We must pull together our resources and talent and develop open source systems that enhance trust and transparency and develop quality datasets, free from biases, in order to benefit the world. AI must be about people-centric applications. We must address concerns related to cyber security, disinformation, and deep fakes," PM Modi said.
