Actor Richa Chadha's skin is luminous and in one of her interview clips where she appeared as a guest on Cyrus Broacha's YouTube channel, she explained one of the skincare treatments that she swears by. The actor said that she enjoys Vampire facials a lot. She further went on to add that when one takes this treatment, one day one's skin may feel a tad rough, but on the next day it feels like baby skin.
Are you scratching your head thinking what the treatment is all about? Well, we got in touch with dermatologist Dr. Piyusha Bhagde who is the founder and chief dermatologist at Skin Ethics Clinic in Akola, Maharashtra. She says, "It’s known as a vampire facelift because the main ingredient is blood. Plasma is the liquid portion of your blood. Platelets are cells within your blood that contain growth factors. PRP is blood that contains growth factors, platelets and plasma. A vampire facial is a combination of microneedling and platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Microneedling uses short, fine needles to puncture the skin. These needles range in size from 0.5 to 2.5 millimeters. The pricks are used to “injure” the skin, prompting your skin to heal itself by producing elastin and collagen, and allowing the PRP to penetrate deeper. Once the microneedling is completed, PRP is applied to your skin topically. PRP is a concentrate of platelet-rich plasma protein produced from blood."

The dermat says it's a good option for those who are looking to revitalise their face without surgery. There are many perks of getting this facial done. Dr. Piyusha says the treatment helps in increasing platelet-rich plasma (PRP), new skin cells, growth of collagen, better texture and complexion of skin. Not only this, it also reduces the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, thereby making the skin appear plump and youthful.
Wondering who all can benefit from this treatment? Well, vampire facial helps in lending a fresh appearance to people who combat wrinkles, fine lines, high levels of solar damage, uneven skin tone, acne scar marks and hyperpigmentation.
“Important thing to note here is that if a person has a history of blood disease, including clotting or bleeding disorders, then they can avoid getting vampire facial treatment or consult their dermatologist before getting it done,” advices Dr. Piyusha.
Some of the downsides one may experience after getting this treatment done are swelling, bruising, tenderness, redness and infection (if hygiene is not maintained).
For those looking forward to getting this treatment done, Dr. Piyusha says it is recommended to begin the treatment with a series of 3 to 4 vampire facials and there should be a gap of 4 to 6 weeks between each facial.
