Bengaluru Panic: Knife-Wielding Rowdy Stabs Four in Indiranagar; Police Debunk Serial Killer Rumours
Bengaluru: Tension gripped Bengaluru's Indiranagar neighbourhood after a man went on a stabbing spree on the night of February 8, attacking four people, including two pani puri vendors, within 30 minutes, as per The Hindu report. The victims, all of whom sustained neck injuries, were rushed to nearby private hospitals. In latest update, doctors have confirmed that they are out of danger.
Serial Killer in Bengaluru?
Panic intensified on February 9 when messages began circulating on social media and WhatsApp groups, warning residents of a supposed serial killer on the loose. However, Bengaluru police were quick to dismiss the rumours, clarifying that the attacks were the work of a known criminal. “A total of four persons were stabbed by the man. We have registered four FIRs. We have identified him. Efforts are on to track him down,” said a senior police official.
I Change Indiranagar Asks Residents to Stay Calm
In response to the rumours, I Change Indiranagar, a federation of residents' welfare associations (RWAs), took to social media, urging locals not to panic.The first victim, 19-year-old Jaswanth, was confronted by the attacker while riding a scooter to fetch drinking water. The assailant forcefully climbed onto Jaswanth’s scooter and demanded he take a right turn, as per the report. When Jaswanth refused, the attacker allegedly slashed his throat and fled.
Minutes later, the accused approached 24-year-old roadside vendor Deepak Kumar, asking for pani puri. When Deepak explained he was closing for the night, the attacker waited until other customers left and then slashed Deepak’s neck.
Next, the assailant approached another pani puri vendor, 44-year-old Thammaiah. After having pani puri, he allegedly attacked Thammaiah when asked to pay. The fourth victim, a passer-by, was also stabbed in the neck before the attacker disappeared from the scene.
Rowdy-Sheeter Identified as the Attacker
Police, after reviewing CCTV footage, identified the suspect as Kadamba, a rowdy-sheeter from Jogupalya. "A rowdy sheet was opened against him in May 2024, and preventive actions had also been initiated. He has six pending cases — one of burglary, two assaults, and three robberies. He has a history of mobile thefts after consuming alcohol and often picks petty fights with neighbours," a senior official said. Four special teams have been formed to apprehend Kadamba, with officials promising swift action. Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant but calm, assuring that steps are being taken to ensure public safety.
