A police constable in Pakistan is a huge fan of Tollywood superstar Allu Arjun. Apparently, his story has been the inspiration behind making the film Thandel. While these fishermen were in prison, the constable reportedly helped them navigate through certain tough times. When the fishermen were released from the prison, the constable asked them to send him an autograph of Allu Arjun. The fishermen, after reaching India, approached a person Karthik who in turn had put them on to Allu Arjun’s manager Bunny Vas (producer of Thandel). After hearing the constable’s story through the fishermen, the producer felt it was a narrative that could be told on the silver screen. And as they say, the rest is history.

Thandel Story Takes Place In Pakistan

Thandel chronicles the tribulations of Indian fishermen from Srikakulam (Andhra Pradesh) who were imprisoned and tortured by Pakistan authorities. The second half of the film takes place in Pakistan (Karachi prison) where fishermen have been remanded by the Pakistani court. Post the film’s release, Thandel received mixed reviews. While the performance of the lead pair – Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi –received acclaim, the narrative was criticized, especially the second half. Devi Sri Prasad has provided the music for the film that had story by Karthik Theeda.
