Mumbai: A recent episode of India’s Got Latent has gone viral for all the wrong reasons. The show, hosted by comedian and creator Samay Raina, featured popular influencers including YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia aka Beer Biceps, Ashish Chanchlani, Apoorva Mukhija aka Rebel Kid (Kaleshi Aurat), and stand-up comedian Jaspreet Singh. While an FIR has been filed against Allahbadia’s adult joke, ‘the rebel kid’ is also receiving backlash for making a comment about woman’s body part.
Humour or Vulgarity?
Known for its edgy content, India’s Got Latent has often been associated with "dark comedy." However, viewers claim the latest episode, which is only available for people who have paid for the channel’s membership, has crossed a threshold of decency. The influencers were accused of resorting to ‘obscene language’ and ‘crude jokes’ under the guise of humour. One particular exchange involving Apoorva Mukhija has become another point of outrage apart from the comment made by Allahbadia.During the show, when a contestant commented, “Vagina mein sensation khatam ho gaya hai, (is there no sensation in your vagina” Apoorva retorted, “Kabhi vagina dekhi hai maa se nikalne ke baad?( have you ever seen a vagina after exiting your mother's) ” The reply, which drew laughter from the audience and panel, has sparked a backlash online, with many calling it offensive and vulgar.
Who Is Apoorva Mukhija aka Rebel Kid?
Apoorva Mukhija, popularly known as Rebel Kid or Kaleshi Aurat, rose to fame during the COVID-19 pandemic through Instagram skits and reels. Her content, often filled with unfiltered commentary and expletives, gained traction among young viewers. She has since expanded her brand into fashion and travel vlogging, collaborating with major international brands like OnePlus, Netflix, Spotify, Google, Hotstar, Amazon, and Meta.With 2.6 million Instagram followers and over 500,000 YouTube subscribers, Apoorva claims most of her audience consists of women. Despite her popularity, she frequently faces criticism for her use of foul language.
Controversial Encounter at DTU
This isn’t the first time Apoorva has found herself at the centre of controversy. A recent video from Delhi Technological University (DTU) showed her engaging in a heated exchange with audience members. As some hecklers shouted at her, she responded defiantly, saying, “100 baar aur todungi aur tu idhar aaja teri haddiyan bhi todungi. Tu idhar udhar bhaag raha tha na chup chupke. Aaja.” The clip quickly went viral.Viewer Backlash and Calls for Boycott
The scene receiving the most criticism currently features Disruptor of the Year National Creators Award winner Ranveer Allahbadia. During the show, he asked a contestant, "Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?" The remark quickly went viral, prompting widespread outrage on social media.Maharashtra CM Responds
After the clip surfaced, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the controversy, stating that while he had not watched the video, he had been informed about its "very vulgar" nature."I have been informed about this, though I have not watched it yet. I came to know that it was very vulgar and this was wrong. Everyone has freedom of speech, but this freedom ends when we encroach upon others' freedom. Everyone has limits, and if anyone crosses them, action will be taken," Fadnavis told reporters.
