Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has directed the state government and authorities to prohibit children below 16 years from watching movies in theatres after 11 PM until a final decision is made. The court emphasised that minors should not be allowed to attend late-night movie shows in theatres and multiplexes. The court instructed the state government to consult all stakeholders and issue guidelines for regulating the entry of children below 16 years in theatres and multiplexes before 11 AM and after 11 PM.
"Till such decision is taken the respondents shall not allow children below 16 years to watch movies after 11 pm," it said.
On Monday, the court was hearing petitions regarding the increase in ticket prices for the Ram Charan-starrer Game Changer and other films.
Petitioner Vijay Gopal's counsel argued that minors should not be allowed to watch movies during late hours, as it could negatively affect their physical and mental health.
Multiplexes run their last shows until 1:30 AM, with no restrictions currently in place to regulate the entry of minors for late-night screenings. He also said the government should have taken a prompt decision for regulating the entry of minors in theatres, more particularly, in view of the unfortunate stampede incident during the benefit show of 'Pushpa -2' in Sandhya Theatre here, which led to grievous injuries to a minor boy and death of his mother, in December last year.
